Overall I think it's a good idea. I guess we could use .br for the front page and pt where the language is more important than the location.
It should be pretty easy to do, make a simple template for the front page where we just replace a few variables, and move our existing blog to WordPress MU so that the maintenance doesn't increase by a ton when we add more instances.
