Morning Simone, It would of course be nice to have a release in hand for foss4g (the reason for our september release cycle) but I understand the delay.
Checking in with developers here and both Kevin and Torben have some API changes that would be easier with an extra bit of time. So a +1 from the Boundless crew. I am tempted to modify your suggestion to have a beta1 and beta 2 (i.e. to get the security fix out for review earlier): - August 18 - 2.8-beta1 release - August 28 - 2.8-beta2 release (and feature freeze) - September 9 - 2.8-RC1 - September 23 2.8.0 release Given our lack of feedback on geoserver-users I am a bit discouraged that a beta1/beta2 would help :( -- Jody Garnett On 10 August 2015 at 05:37, Simone Giannecchini < simone.giannecch...@geo-solutions.it> wrote: > Dear All, > I wanted to ask the other member how do they feel about temporarily > delaying the releases for GS 2.8 and GT 14. > > Most people on our side are on vacation in the next two weeks (Mauro, > Stefano, Daniele and partially Andrea and Alessio to name a few) > moreover, judging by the number of foreign people in my area the same > applies to many north europeans and north americans something similar > might apply to them as well :). > As a consequence, we would not be able to help much with testing the > releases as well as cleaning up and documenting work we have done > lately. > I would also like to schedule some extra testing for the security > fixes but will be slow again due to vacations and see other things > still in the fly for the releases. > > My suggestion would be to introduce a small perturbation in the > release dates as follow: > > 18 Aug for Beta becomes 28 August > 2 Sept for RC becomes 9 Sept > 18 Sept for First Release becomes 23 Sept > > then we go back to the usual date which means that, as an instance > 2.8.1 should be released on 18 Nov. > > I strongly suggest this move since It would not be wise to put > ourselves under too much pressure on a self inflicted deadline and > risk to give away more quality checks > for respecting it. > > Looking forward to reading your feedback. > > Regards, > Simone Giannecchini > == > GeoServer Professional Services from the experts! > Visit http://goo.gl/it488V for more information. > == > Ing.
