Hi, I've been tasked to create a utility class that would allow writing generic SimpleFeature collections to one or more shapefiles respecting, within the limits of possible, the limitations of the format, in terms of geometry uniformity, size limits and the like, and fan out to multiple shapefiles when a limitation does not allow a direct write.
A good chunk of this work (minus splitting over file size limits) has been done already in the ShapeZipOutputFormat, so the idea is to take most of its code, turn it into a ShapefileDumper GeoTools class, and make ShapeZipOutputFormat depend on it.
