Hi,
the coverage band details in the UI already report a notion of "no data" as
part of the coverage band
details:
This info is currently not used much (mostly WCS DescribeCoverage).
We'd like to pass that info down to the readers, as a read parameter, for
readers that might be dealing with data that needs
a nodata but does not have a good definition of it.
Instead of adding a visible read parameter in which users would have to
basically duplicate the "null values" contents,
we'd rather make use of what's already there.
However, noawadays like above the "null values" is already filled with
bogus data, which should not be passed down to readers
in general (if that was done blanked, black would become transparent in RGB
images, if jai-ext is enabled).
And those zeroes are stored in the configuration too.
So, to avoid upgrade issues, we'd propose to add a checkbox right below the
coverage band details, to allow the
admin configuration of whether to send, or not, those null values down into
the reader.
Something like:
[ ] Pass null values into the image reader
It would be unchecked by default, since the more common cases are either
not to have the nodata, or to have it properly
declared in the source data. This flag would be used to pass a value when
it's missing instead, without having to
re-process all the input source data (which is an issue nowadays).
This would align GeoServer with EOXServer (which already has this
functionality, configurable nodata).
Opinions, objections?
Cheers
Andrea
