1) Confirming it fails to start in Java 8?
Jetty starts, and the logs contain:

java.lang.UnsupportedClassVersionError:
org/geoserver/GeoserverInitStartupListener has been compiled by a more
recent version of the Java Runtime (class file version 55.0), this version
of the Java Runtime only recognizes class file versions up to 52.0
Ideally it would not startup, and have a clear message about Java 11. But
we can use the above warning in our release notes.
2) Check for warnings on initial start
We are down to only a few GWC warnings:
11 Mar. 20:48:06 WARN [config.XMLConfiguration] - GWC configuration
validation error: cvc-elt.1.a: Cannot find the declaration of element
'gwcConfiguration'.
11 Mar. 20:48:06 WARN [config.XMLConfiguration] - Will try to use
configuration anyway. Please check the order of declared elements against
the schema.
