Hi, I am remembering that the gdal SoC project http://trac.osgeo.org/gdal/wiki/OpenCLIntegration was giving from 2 to even 50 times more speed for gdalwarp application. Similar system might well speedup also Geoserver WMS at least when reprojecting rasters.
