Yep, it is auto generated so that it can fit any requested size, the client
is free to ask for large
icon, e.g.:
http://demo1.geo-solutions.it/geoserver/wms?service=WMS&version=1.1.0&request=GetLegendGraphic&layer=gn:world&format=image/png&width=128&height=128
A static icon would have to be stretched and become quite ugly (even in the
reasonable
range of icon sizes, between 8x8 and 32x32).
We could probably allow the admin to provide a range of icons to be used for
the different
sizes, pick the closest one and stretch it to the actual requested size.
Anyways, that would require new code to handle the configuration and the
generation
of the icon.
If anybody is interested in taking this up I can show where one would have
to make the
changes.
