Just as I suspected. I saw your 2010 post on the new legend support, and
inferred that the icons are auto generated. Plus, a find for pngs only
turned up openlayers products.

In an ideal world, I'd love to take this up, but I lack the time and
expertise, so for now I'll write a workaround on the client side. Is there
a wish list this could be appended to pending time + expertise and/or
funding?

Thanks,

Steve

Hi All,

                Short of generating a really specific redirect or rewrite on
my proxy , is there any trivial way to get geoserver to serve back an
alternate legend icon for raster? I'm using a version in the 2.0 series. I
was hoping there was just a buried PNG to modify or replace, but doing a
little poking around, and I suspect the raster icon is auto-generated. .

Yep, it is auto generated so that it can fit any requested size, the client
is free to ask for large

icon, e.g.:

http://demo1.geo-solutions.it/geoserver/wms?service=WMS
<http://demo1.geo-solutions.it/geoserver/wms?service=WMS&version=1.1.0&reque
st=GetLegendGraphic&layer=gn:world&format=image/png&width=128&height=128>
&version=1.1.0&request=GetLegendGraphic&layer=gn:world&format=image/png&widt
h=128&height=128

A static icon would have to be stretched and become quite ugly (even in the
reasonable

range of icon sizes, between 8x8 and 32x32).

We could probably allow the admin to provide a range of icons to be used for
the different

sizes, pick the closest one and stretch it to the actual requested size.

Anyways, that would require new code to handle the configuration and the
generation

of the icon.

If anybody is interested in taking this up I can show where one would have
to make the

changes.

Cheers

Andrea
