Thanks for the suggestions and input, everyone. We have some more
internal vetting to do as regards the licensing. We currently don't have
any solid documentation for download, but we hope to shortly.

Everything stored in Mongo is JSON, and the plugin handles
GeoJSON-encoded data. We map Mongo collections to layers, although
collections with mixed geometry types are mapped to corresponding
layers. The plugin examines the fields and types of a given collection
to build up a schema; fields with conflicting types are either treated
as Strings, or assigned the most frequent type; depending on a
user-defined setting. The bulk of the schema generation is done
server-side via a Mongo map-reduce job (called by the plugin). The
plugin stores the resulting schema in a SimpleFeatureType.
