It all depends on the connectivity to your machine, 3.7MB are a lot to transfer
over the internet.
Guessing your bandwidth between the client and the server:

3.7MB * 1024 = 3788.8KB / 9 sec = 421KB/s

which may not too bad if this is a home connection or a shared office
connection.
Since I see you're using aerials I'd really suggest you tell uDig to
prefer using
jpeg, it's going to be much more compact
