Ah, it looks that some code modifications are needed in order to go through
a
proxy that requires authentication, see here:

Open an improvement report on jira.codeahaus.org for the geotools wms
module.
If you need the change to become part of the official source code I'd
suggest you
also attach a patch fixing the issue (you have the right enviroment to test
