Dear list,
I could need a helping hand with geoserver/georss.

We use the GeoServer GeoRSS-Format for receiving new features (points
and their meta data) from within predefined polygons. This works
properly so far, as the we receive newly set points. The problem is,
that GeoServer adds a serial-number to each GUID e.g. from the RDF-response:

..

http://***************/geoserver/wms/reflect?format=application/atom+xml&layers=klarschiff:vorgaenge&featureid=vorgaenge.fid--445bc3a8_12fe54f8cd4_-7523

 ..

..

The last four digets (7523) is a number, that is incremeted by every
request. AFAIK this makes it difficult for feed readers, to eliminate
items, that are already known to the feed reader. So to say: The GUID is
too unique. So that the feed reader is getting flooded with redundant items.

I downloaded the GeoServer source und found a file, that describes the
template-system, used by Geoserver (Freemarker,
http://www.freemarker.org ). I am wondering now, if this could be used
to generate customized GUID-tags within the items-sections.

Would be nice, if anyone could give me a helping hand or a link to
examples, where I could see how freemarker is practically beeing used in
GeoServer.

Thanx & kind regards,
Peter
