Hi, I may not able to answer your further questions., but we have done it in an application and one of our colleagues used iText for generating *map with reports* in pdf format in an application.
The below url may provide some info. http://itextpdf.com/ http://www.vogella.de/articles/JavaPDF/article.html Initially used geoext library, but there was some limitation in parameter parsing through GET method. with itext library, he was send more parameters with POST method.
