I can easily repeat the error with GB 2.2.beta 1. I do not need QGis for seeing the error, I can just press WMS 1.1.1 service capabities link. Geoserver does not seem to like the GetCapabilities response from the remote server even I do not see anything wrong with it. One issue I can see. The remote server supports only WMS 1.1.0. However, after creating the store Geoserver tries to connect is as WMS 1.3.0. This is the request sent by Geoserver http://gis.ktimanet.gr/wms/wmsopen/wmsserver.aspx?REQUEST=GetCapabilities&VERSION=1.3.0&SERVICE=WMS Funny that the remote server sends back WMS 1.1.0 capabilities. I would have believed it should send an error message about unsupported version but I may be wrong. Geoserver sends correct WMS 1.1.0 GetCapabilites if this exact URL is used when making the store http://gis.ktimanet.gr/wms/wmsopen/wmsserver.aspx?service=WMS&version=1.1.0&request=GetCapabilities However, Geoserver gives still the same error about not beeing able to get layer. Perhaps there is a parsing error with the capabilites document. In addition, Geoserver should be made to use correct version also when sending GetCapabilities, even when the base URL is given without version.
