Are you using GeoServer configuring wms cascade for MapServer?
If this is the case, and you are only using it for the integrated GWC, it
seems to me it is overkill. I would deploy a stand alone installation of
GWC to cache mapserver layers.
Please forgive me in case I totally misunderstood your problem
