It seems to me this is a reasonable path for you assuming they are not
replicating a state’s worth of images. For example any geoserver instance with
the demo data still running will respond with an image overlay, in KML, to a
request like this ( to a test machine of mine)

http://buckeye.agriculture.purdue.edu:8080/geoserver/sf/wms/kml?layers=sf:sfdem

the user opens the KML in GEP and sees the image. If user leaves the link in
GEP it will be there every time he opens the program. Setting up for serving a
large number of images will take some effort from you, but that would be true
of any platform.

Subject: [Geoserver-users] Is GeoServer for me?

I am fairly new to GIS and have a potential client who wants a higher-res
aerial map in GEP.

I have tried many options to get him several overlays, etc. but GEP converts to
superoverlay which I cannot figure out how to get to him.

One of the options from my search was GeoServer. I have installed it on a
Win7-64bit computer but things are not going so well. Also, I do not think I
am in a position to HOST a server for him to be pulling from even though I am
intrigued about doing this into the future if I can get over the learning curve.

1st. Is GeoServer a reasonable solution for me to accomplish my current goal?

2nd How in the world do I configure and use it for my goal.

I have read the docs, but I will admit it seems beyond me even with the good
docs.

I hope this email find you all well, and please forgive me if I have entered
inappropriately.
