Hey Mike,

With some difficulty, I was able to successfully get the MrSID extension
installed (ECW has the same steps) with geoserver 2.9.1 on Windows server 2012
R2 x64.
For whatever reason I was not able to install the extension with OpenGeo 4.8.
MSVC2010 (Microsoft Visual C++ 2010 Redistributable) installs fine on Windows
server 2012, In fact I have all of the following installed (though all you
should need is MSVC2010):
MSVC2005 (x86 & x64)
MSVC2008 (x86 & x64)
MSVC2010 (x86 & x64)

I ended up using the x86 variant of MSVC2010 even though the server is x64,
it's the only way I could get it to work for me.

Here's a post I made that outlines all of my steps. This only worked once I
installed geoserver directly.
http://gis.stackexchange.com/questions/193562/unable-to-add-mrsid-extension-to-geoserver

Hope that helps.
Thanks,
Marc
