This appears to be a problem with your SQLServer (or the geometry), as previously identified (https://sourceforge.net/p/geoserver/mailman/message/36463520/).
The error is not coming from GeoServer. I have checked that all the polygons in the SQL Server table are valid (indeed three separate people in three separate organisations have done this).
