Its somewhat difficult to tell without some idea of what "installed on the server" involved. For example, how are you deploying it? What hardening have you applied? Are you using a proxy, and if so, how did you configure the proxy and geoserver. You can try checking the logs, and also trying web browser "developer mode" to see what requests are being made that might be failing. If you can describe the situation a bit more, perhaps someone can make some more targeted suggestions.
