If you enable the "Bind user before searching for groups" checkbox, it looks like the provided user (i.e. whoever is logging in) will be used for the bind operation. So you don't need to provide the credentials in the authentication configuration for that case. I didn't actually try it, but there is a test that verifies the behaviour.
