Maven 2 boasts full maven 1 feature coverage but I have found a number of cases which are not so. Examples include the eclipse plugin and the war plugin.

Maven 2 claims to support Eclipse (http://maven.apache.org/plugins/maven-eclipse-plugin/) and WAR (http://maven.apache.org/plugins/maven-war-plugin/) plugins, but since I don't use any of them myself (I use NetBeans) I don't know how good they are. We may need the help of an Eclipse user in order to configure the Geotools master pom.xml file for Eclipse and WAR.

I can remember about a year or so ago when geotools was using maven 1.0.x before 1.1 and there was much frustration due to bugs. I would hate the same thing to happen again by jumping on the maven 2 train too quickly.

Maven 1 and 2 can cohabit as long as we want. Maven 2 still have some bugs in secondary plugins like javadoc and web site generation, but is workable for me (the most important plugins like javac and install work fine). I don't really know if it is workable for other peoples until I get some volunter for trying the Maven 2 build on their side (and maybe fix some issue like Eclipse plugin configuration, if needed).

Anyway, I don't expect to remove the Maven 1 build before one or two months, and of course not before an agreement on IRC. During that time, the Maven 2.0.2 release (and maybe 2.1) should be out.

        Martin.
