I don't know who is the maitainer of the shapefile module...

Can I commit those changes?

I think Jesse has been acting as module maintainer lately, but he is off on holiday for a couple weeks yet. I think Ian may have been
to other module maintainer (what does project.xml say?).

Second request: I though that the whole point about the "sample-data" module was to provides the data in a simple location, so that various module don't have to copy them again and again in their directory. Why the shapefile module doesn't use "sample-data"? Can I update its test suite in order to make use of this module instead of copying file like "statepop" in its own directory?

That is the point - I just don't think they got around to it yet (or perhaps that decision about sample-data was not put in the developers guide so recent developers don't know about it). As I recall the only instructions are to use a test-data directory and the TestData class when accessing it.

Updating shapefile sounds good, if a module maintainer does not get back to you in three days you can go ahead. It does not look like 2.2.RC0 was released yet, did you want to get the changes in for the release candidate? I am having a bit of trouble setting up my new machine, (especially with the developers guide being unreadable).

Jody
