Maven 1 is not maintained (6 months on a blocker bug), and Maven 2 is
waiting on a fix for shapefile tests (we need to confirm that this is
marked as a blocker)

Codeformatting before commit:
- I am a +1
GT 2.2.x going stable:
- we got a bit of work to do before this goes out. Maven 2, JTS 1.7, I
fixed FeatureType.create, and we need to clean up our deprecated stuff.
- I have started filling in the blanks for the 2.2.x and 2.3.x changes
(although recent email is still better).
