I think uDig was also targeting 2.2.x (aka the branch). I am not sure
if making a release from the branch
should necessitate a name change?

Stable Branch:
- 2.2.x
- 2.2.x --> 2.2.0 tag
- 2.2.x
- 2.2.x --> 2.2.1

It is not like we are making milestone releases from this thing ....

I also expect trunk to work like this:
- 2.3.x
- 2.3.x- >2.3-M0
- 2.3.x
- 2.3.x- >2.3-RC0
- 2.3.x
- 2.3.x- >2.3.0

The alternative would be rather difficult to track:
- 2.3-M0-SNAPSHOT
- 2.3-M0-SNAPSHOT --> 2.3-M0
- 2.3-RC0-SNAPSHOT
- 2.3-RC0-SNAPSHOT--> 2.3-RC0-SNAPSHOT
- 2.3.0-SNAPSHOT
- 2.3.0-SNAPSHOT --> 2.3.0

Cheers,
