Well I don't see how realistically we can support it due to lack of unit
tests of functionality in the old datastore. Maybe its my recent
experiences, but i have found that "lets just switch to something new
and better" pretty much never works.

I could spend some volunteer time to look at "db in a boxing" h2. For
the time being spatial queries will be slow but I don't think that
effects your primary goal of having a good example for people to work from.
