Hi guys,
I have a student that is about to do a 4 months intern with us. If we agree
I can have him covering the missing guys. We already discussed with him
about what he could work on.

We were thinking about two things mainly related to the Postgis datastore
which would provide benefits for GeoTools but also uDig and GeoServer.

1> We have been talking during the last IRC to the possibility to adding
hints to the geotools query interface for better control over the behaviour
of the datastore. I talked with the guy about trying to work in this
direction to add support for simplification for faster WMS support with big
datasets.

2> There is one thing that I have been wondering about lately in order to
improve support for Postgis. I talked about it with aaime last week. I have
seen that inside Postgis svn for jdbc there are experiments for retrieving
JTS objects directly or better Java2D objects. I think that beside what I
stated in point 1 it would be really great to have for postgis an approach
similar to the one that exists in uDig for shapefile. I am thinking about a
specialized renderer that will avoid the chain pggeometry --> JTS -->Java2D
shape.
Me or better Alessio could mentor the student but we would be also hoping to
get some help from Jesse Eichar who's the one responsible for the
ShapeRenderer.

What do you think, should I talk to him about this opportunity?

I am sure that within tomorrow 2 pm (UTC+2) I will have an answer from him
(yes or no).

Ciao,
Simone.

If we can line up another student FAST, google may let us take on
another project...

Anyone know any hungry students?

Cory.
