Wat do you mean exaclty by the sentence "to drag
 images into memory again?" (that sounds like a "no" :-)  sorry) ? If
you could be moore specific I could try to come up with something
similar to a solution.

Well, that's a problem in most OS jpeg readers, Tthey are all actually
quite inefficient. We could try to put together some workarounds by
creating a new separate JPEG plugin but I don't have spare time at all
to do it right now.
One things that we should do over time is splitting the WorldImage
plugin into separate plugins for each format (jpeg, gif, tiff) if we
want to be a bit more efficients. Differents formats usually means
different strategies to improve performances.
