It was in order to share the same set of test files over many modules. Before
sample-data, we had many copy of identical .shp files because many modules
needed it for their tests.
680 kb is not that big. Unfortunatly the addition of many "not that big" files
endup with big repository. For coverage stuff, unless we want to test the
scalability, a small file is often enough since we are not going to tests all
the pixel values - the metadata associated to the file is often more important
for testing purpose than the pixel values themself. Is there any possibility to
trim the ECW test file using some tools?
