Hi Andrea, Jody,

I'm back to doing a little work on the unsupported mappane module.
Your discussion of working towards a clean build for demos etc. makes
me wonder if mappane should be a module at all, or would be better
placed in demo itself. After all, on the user list and guide it's
consistently described as an example for users to study or take as a
starting point, rather than being a fully-fledged GeoTools component.
This implies that there will never be an effort to promote it to the
status of a supported module. That's perfectly fine but I can't see
the point in letting mappane languish in the unsupported bin
indefinitely because it gives users the impression that it is
intended, at some stage, to be more than a working example.

I'm presently hacking some very simple "map widget" code using
JMapPane to help collect my thoughts for the FOSS4G tutorial that Jody
is planning. I suggest that this, or something based on it, could be
bundled with the present mappane module contents as a demo module, and
mappane be removed from unsupported.

What do you think ?

Michael
