Thank you for responding so quickly. I always appreciate your efforts
to answer my questions. Attempted collaboration with Geotools wouldn't
be the same without you. :]

Based on the history that you posted, it sounds like OpenJUMP may have
made some shapefile fixes that you guys are missing. I think most of
our fixes had to do with the way polygon rings are handled. I will
have to search our mailing list and ask around to see if I can get a
list of the fixes we implemented. Who would I talk to about seeing if
these fixes are needed in the Geotools shapefile code, and on getting
them contributed if they are needed?

It sounds like I can just use the existing WKT reader that is in OpenJUMP.

I'll post another message with a question on how to get started with
the Shapefile code in Geotools.
