Just to follow up this discussion; I have formally asked for a branch to
explore some of these issues (from a slightly unlikely direction). The factory
spi system stands in the way (along with rendering hints) for the use of
geotools in an andriod environment.
When I get the go ahead; I would like to invite you to explore OSGi use on the
branch (or using artifacts created on the branch). The goal is to explore some
of the issues and create a solid change proposal for GeoTools.
