Hmm... while I know about the extension mechanism (create extension
postgis) I was not aware that templates
went out of fashion?
Templates do more than just containing an extension, for example, it allows
to setup defaults for charsets,
collation, provide an initial content too I believe.
I've searched for "postgresql template deprecated", found nothing.. I would
expected this kind of change
to meet with much clamor on the internet?
