When adding gt-wfs-ng (and removing gt-wfs) I get the following
dependencies:

[INFO] +- org.geotools:gt-wfs-ng:jar:12-SNAPSHOT:compile
[INFO] | \- xpp3:xpp3:jar:1.1.3.4.O:compile

Is there anything else besides xpp3 that I need?

There is also a reference to gt-wfs sneaking in from geoscript land - so I
suggest you ask for testing from that project as well:

[INFO] +- org.geoscript:geoscript-groovy:jar:1.4-SNAPSHOT:compile
[INFO] | +- org.geotools:gt-wfs:jar:12-SNAPSHOT:compile
