Hi, Yest there is no much support for building complex features, the code used in app-schema is quite specific and spread among several places, which is normal since it was wrote for app-schema :)
It still no clear to me when a complex feature building requirement exists because of some standard, XML limitation or to respect some XML encoder expectation. I agree with your change it would make things easier to understand (at least it will look more natural to me), the things that may break is the XML encoder expectations and GeoJSON ones.
