Almost all open source is done a bit in-between things at work :) Even for
those of us lucky enough to work at open source companies like myself

GeoTools works hard to be open for contribution; on the technical side that
comes down to Andrea's excellent work on adding QA checks to the build
system; as a team we have that developers guide.
