Hi Michael,

if i use exactly your implementation and resize the Frame (Window) via mouse
a view times I get following "errors":

nothing "goes" anymore it is stucked no error message so I don’t know why it
stopped 

the same happens when I use JMapPane instead of FlyingSaucer!

It happens here too!

I share your uncertainty about this - it's never been clear to me
exactly how to set these values in a way that gives predictable
behaviour, though that's probably my fault for not studying the code
sufficiently.

The SLD specs give some detail about how the scale denominator values
are interpreted in relation to 'standardized rendering pixel size'.
