Out of interest, do other folk here have similar feelings ? ie. that simple things are sometimes made difficult ? When we were preparing material for FOSS4G, Jody commented that a nice spin-off was that tweaking examples highlighted needlessly cumbersome aspects of the library and suggested ways to simplify them. Discussion on the list here contributes to that too of course, but perhaps not as much as it could because (understandably) people are mostly posting about a specific bug or road block.
