Hello David (and all), I didn't see the email you refer to (but I'm on GMT+10) so perhaps it came in overnight). I've also been off sick recently so it might be sitting in my backlog.
Sorry to be a pain but I don't support this proposal. I am half way through refactoring the entire swing module to abstract out interfaces and provide good test coverage. This work is on a branch in the GeoTools repo. Your SoC proposal would pull the rug out from under that. Obviously, as an OS project your are free to fork the swing module if you like but you are not free to take over the module without a proposal to the GeoTools PMC being approved.
