Hello, I'm not sure what ArcCatalog does, but in any case I would recommend you take a look at the uDig project if you didn't already (<http://udig.refractions.net/>). It has the concept of a data catalog that _might_ be similar to ArcCatalog, and that could certainly be extended to address the missing functionalities instead of creating a whole new thing?
