I just checked on JTS 1.10 as distributed with GeoTools (that version wasn't in maven central). According to the JTS pom file it depends on xercesImpl 2.4.0. Looking at the JTS 1.11 pom, it has the same dependency.
I don't know why this isn't evident in your first dependency:tree output. Maven moves in mysterious ways. Sorry that none of that is directly helpful.
