There is tile client code in uDig if you would like to port it to GeoTools. It
is the result of a google summer of code student work. We actually ported an
earlier version (that could only do WMS-C) but it was withdrawn due to lack of
interest.
As I understand it the code in uDig does WMC-C, OSM, WMTS and so forth...
