I believe you're recommending that I continue to let MapViewport.getWorldToScreen() do the transformation to screen coordinates, but then I introduce a rotation of those screen coordinates about the centre of the screen-area. Yes, that sounds much better. I can do it in plain Java without worrying about CRS & Projections.
