Yep, I guess it is. If your data source is vector that sounds like the best
approach,
if it's purely raster there are more efficient ways to get the result
though.

Btw, I would throw in a thread pool and submit several requests in parallel,
although this java2d bug will limit your scalability:

(solution to the above? run multiple processes in parallel).
