Hmmm, I would swear I took the image generatin program from the geotools wiki. Well, if I didn't, we can get it from jgrasstools, we have one there which obviously is all geotools.
Let's chat about it in IRC and I can supply you the snippet for the docs. @Andrea: we are doing overlays of several rasters adnd vectors to produce tiles to have a more lightweight format to serve data on.
