OK I solved the problem. 

I altered the WMSCoverageReader class so that it sends severalt requests to
WMS server if necessary and joins the result into a single image.

If you are interested I can post the code here.

The only problem which remains is the printing of point features. The larger
the resolution - the smaller they become. If I find a solution to that I
will let you know.
