Dear Hendrik,
A few notes on the imageMosaic parameters:
- the background value is used to fill parts of the mosaic extent which
aren't covered by actual data.
- the input transparent color is used to make transparent a color before
doing the mosaic of the input datasets.
- the output transparent color is used to make transparent a color after
the mosaic has been computed.
Which parameters did you configure?
If you have a mask available for your dataset, you could also try with the
imageMosaic footprint.
More info are available here:
http://docs.geoserver.org/2.4.x/en/user/tutorials/imagemosaic_footprint/imagemosaic_footprint.html
Cheers,
Daniele
