Nope, postgis is pretty tolerant, many operation do work with invalid
geometries. We have a few sites in which we discovered this the hard way,
and had to add a makevalid during ingest in order to allow wfs-t editing of
the geometries. Of course, where we don't do WFS-T, stuff stays broken and
both geoserver and leaflet live happly (broken with some limits of course).
