Hi,
we don't have facilities for doing that, but as long as the buffered
distance
is small, I believe you can pick a parametric projection and just center it
on
the area of interest.

An azimuthal equidistant projection centered on the geometry to be buffered
should do the trick. I have not tried, but believe you can template this
WKT definition
and change its center (central meridian, latitude of origin) according to
your needs:

PROJCS["World_Azimuthal_Equidistant",GEOGCS["GCS_WGS_1984",DATUM["D_WGS_1984",SPHEROID["WGS_1984",6378137.0,298.257223563]],PRIMEM["Greenwich",0.0],UNIT["Degree",0.0174532925199433]],PROJECTION["Azimuthal_Equidistant"],PARAMETER["Central_Meridian",0.0],PARAMETER["Latitude_Of_Origin",0.0],UNIT["Meter",1.0]]

and then use CRS.parseWKT to get the CoordinateReferenceSystem object that
you'll use for reprojection.

One downside, this projection has been added to GeoTools very recently, I'd
recommend using the upcoming
GeoTools 16.1 for it.

If that does not work, you can pull the same/similar trick using a
LambertAzimuthalEqualArea.
Even a classic UTM would do, assuming your geometries are not too far up
north, in which case you should consider a UPS instead.

Hope this helps

Cheers
Andrea
