seems close to 0 to me; 53 meters at 41deg latitude ~~ 0.000477 deg (1
deg == 111053.88m)
Not familiar with the innards of the calculations, but you can check
your expectations with the testcases in
https://github.com/geotools/geotools/blob/master/modules/library/referencing/src/test/java/org/geotools/referencing/GeodeticCalculatorTest.java
perhaps using a different ellisoid yields better results
