And now the mundane... We've been seeing a lot of .prj sidecar files from users from Arc Desktop that isn't WKT [1]. I've found a reference to it at - https://desktop.arcgis.com/en/arcmap/10.3/manage-data/raster-and-images/esri-grid-format.htm - It seems to be referred to as an 'ASCII PRJ' file. But there's not much else on the web to go on. Anyway, the ArcGridFormat reader doesn't understand it or seem to cope with it, and I think it logs an error and reads the .asc without setting the CRS. But before I investigated a patch or a workaround , I was wondering if there was some prior art I could use for decoding these files, or some wisdom about how I could go about it.
